In January 2014 Governor of Alabama Robert Bentley, Mayor Ray Nelson, Judge William Oswalt, C3 President David Thornell and a host of local representatives gathered at a refurbished sewing plant to announce the opening of the Fayette Center for Manufacturing and Innovation. It was announced the first occupant, a start-up company to be called Fayette Fabrication, would be headed by Mr. Mark McClanahan. Mr. McClanahan is a native of Decatur with twenty years experience in the automotive industry. His insight into the needs of automobile production convinced him a company producing “racking systems” in the proximity of Tuscaloosa could be a success. The quality of work and willingness to produce custom systems to meet each customer’s specific needs has garnered the attention of automotive related companies across the country. Under Mr. McClanahan’s direction Fayette Fabrication has far exceeded its original expectations, a tribute to his vision and leadership. This article in Business Alabama is a sample of the publicity to come to Fayette because of the vision of local leaders reaching out to entrepreneurs seeking a “business friendly” town.
